Chemist

  • Education: BS or MS in chemistry, biology, life sciences, or equivalent work experience.

Position Summary

The chemist position is responsible for analytical technologies and techniques related to the safety and potency testing of cannabis. The chemist will be involved with the development, modification, verification, and validation of methods as well as the analysis, reporting, review, and authorization of results in accordance with the laboratory policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing by following established procedures while meeting required turn-around-time goals
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and notebooks
  • Use good laboratory practices
  • Assist in the development of new applications and analytical procedures
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and recognize when equipment requires additional expertise
  • Document sample preparation, testing observations, and results in precise detail
  • Standardize and create SOPs for laboratory methods and procedures
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and materials
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment
  • Maintain proper storage, handling, and usage of hazardous materials
  • Maintain ISO 17025 compliance and follow quality assurance programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Experience working in an analytical chemistry laboratory preferred
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography (LC/MS), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), ICP-MS, ­Microbiology (qPCR)

Preferred Skills:

  • Laboratory experience designing, setting up, and conducting routine and non-routine experiments using diverse analytical techniques.
  • Experience with ISO17025 accreditation or other certification to international standards.
  • Proficient in the application of basic statistical techniques to laboratory data.
  • Proficient in the use of MS office applications.
  • Experience with LabWare LIMS or similar laboratory information management system.
  • Previous registration as a MA State cannabis agent with the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
